YOUTH SOCCER LEAGUE

The Santa Rosa Youth Soccer League (SRYSL) is part of two national soccer organizations.  Currently the League affiliates with the CalNorth (California Youth Soccer Association - North) which is part of United States Youth Soccer (USYS) and US Club Soccer which is part of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).

SRYSL is divided into clubs for administrative purposes.  There are two geographically defined clubs which form competitive and recreational teams from resident players.  A third club, the Santa Rosa United Club, forms competitive level select teams drawing on players from all of SRYSL and the surrounding area.

The league forms teams that provide four levels of play following the current guidelines of CalNorth.  These levels of play are Premier competitive, Club competitive and Recreational.

Premier competitive teams in our Santa Rosa United Club are single age group teams (age pure).  Age groups from Under 9 (U9) through Under 19 (U19) form teams in February, March and April by tryouts.  Under 9 through Under 14 teams can play league games year round.  Under 15 through Under 19 teams can play a Spring/Summer/Winter League season so there is no conflict with high school soccer in the fall.  About 10% of SRYSL players are on Premier teams.

Club competitive teams in our Santa Rosa Empire and Santa Rosa South Clubs are single age group teams (age pure).  Age groups from Under 9 (U9) through Under 19 (U19) form teams in March and April by tryouts.  Under 9 through Under 14 teams can play league games year round.  Under 15 through Under 19 teams can play a Spring/Summer/Winter League season so there is no conflict with high school soccer in the fall.  About 15% of SRYSL players are on Club competitive teams.

CalNorth (Cal Soccer League – CCSL) and US Club (Northern California Premier Soccer League – NorCal) both provide several levels of organized competitive league play.

Recreational level teams in our Santa Rosa Empire and Santa Rosa South Clubs are two-year age groupings (Under 6 through Under 16) plus one three-year age group (Under 19).  Team formation procedures vary by club, but are formed with the intent of fielding equal strength teams.  Separate boys and girls teams are formed in all age groups except Under 19, where either coed or gender-specific teams are formed (clubs may form Under 6 coed teams).  Approximately 75% of SRYSL players are recreational.
